The objective of the M&E Mechanism is to provide a better understanding of the effect of United Nations efforts to reduce the threat and impact of mines and explosive remnants of war.  This improved understanding supports results-based management. The Mechanism also demonstrates the changes taking place to donors, civil society, international and regional organizations, and affected states

Programme outreach

  • Conduct initial and follow up support to Survey Focal Points
  • Provide technical support (e.g. ‘I’ve lost my survey!’)
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer network among Survey Focal Points

Inter-agency coordination - IACG-MA & Consultative Working Group (CWG)

  • Hold meetings of interagency ‘Consultative Working Group’ (‘CWG’) to review implementation and findings (scheduling, managing deliverables, facilitating)
  • Make recommendations and provide updates at monthly IACG-MA

M&E Mechanism development & maintenance

  • Develop the Survey into a web-based tool, Qualtrics
  • Translate the survey (French, Arabic, Spanish)
  • Pre-populate data in the survey from previous rounds, to ease data collection
  • Collect survey modifications and extension requests

Data analysis

  • Define and prioritize research questions
  • Conduct statistical analysis
  • Maintain and integrate databases

 

 

 

 

Reporting

  • Provide external reports: IACG-MA Statements, National Directors Meeting, etc.
  • Provide additional reports: UNMAS Annual Report; biennial Report of the Secretary-General on Assistance in Mine Action; ad hoc country-specific reports

HQ-based data collection support

  • Update and maintain database related to Strategic Objective 4
  • Track UN mine action reporting (e.g. General assembly & Security Council reports and resolutions
     
  • IACG-MA is able to make programming and policy decisions based on data available from the M&E Mechanism;
  • UN country programmes have evidence of change over time related to the relevant Strategic Objectives in the Strategy of the United Nations on Mine Action 2013 – 2108
