The Month in Mines, April 2013 by Landmines in Africa
[Landmines in Africa - blog] Annually, the world observes April 4th as the International Day for Mine Awareness and Action.  As a result, the month of April, along with the month of the Meeting of States Parties to the Mine Ban Treaty and the accompanying release of the annual Landmine Monitor, sees many articles and news stories about landmines, their impacts upon communities and efforts to clear them.

Tunisia: Mount Chaambi - 4th Landmine Explosion, Two Servicemen Wounded
[All Africa - Tunis Afrique Presse ] A fourth landmine exploded in Mount Chaambi - city of Kasserine - on Monday, wounding two army corporals.

Bolivia
Bolivia Ratifies the Cluster Bomb Ban 
[CMC] he Plurinational State of Bolivia has become the latest country to join the global ban on cluster munitions, after depositing its instrument of ratification on 30 April.  Bolivia will become the 82nd State Party to the Convention on Cluster Munitions when its ratification enters into force on 1 October 2013 in accord with the waiting period mandated by the Convention.

The Inspirational "Voices from Laos" US Tour Ends Today in Washington DC, on the Anniversary of the End of the Vietnam War  
[CMC] The ‘Voices from Laos: Clearing Bombs. Protecting Lives” national speakers tour, organised by CMC member organisation Legacies of War, culminates in Washington DC today, on the anniversary of the end of the Vietnam war.

[BBC] Two decades after war, Croatia still has 74,000 landmines. Most national parks and areas around tourist sites are safe but further clearance is a priority as the country seeks to become a year-round destination for foreign visitors.

Syria
Disabled Syria Rebel Returns to the Front Line
[AFP] When a landmine blew Syrian rebel Jamil Lala's foot off, he expected to be relegated to a non-combat role far behind the front lines and away from his comrades.
