[UN] Today we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action.  In the past decade, much progress has been made towards eradicating the threat of anti-personnel landmines, with 162 States now Parties to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

This year the event will be held under the theme 'More than Mines' to take into account the types of explosive threats faced by UN member States such as unexploded bombs, unsecured weapons and ammunition and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Children Killed and Injured by Landmines in Eastern Ukraine
[UN Radio] At least 109 children are reported to have been injured and 42 killed by landmines and unexploded ordnance in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions of eastern Ukraine since March last year, according to the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF.
