Weapons Destruction by UNMACC of Weapons Collected by DDR/RR MONUSCO

(UNMAS-DRC) The United Nations Coordination Centre (UNMACC) in collaboration with the Disarmament, Demobilization, Repatriation, Reintegration, and Resettlement (DDR/RR) division of MONUSCO in South Kivu will be holding a weapons destruction ceremony this Thursday 09 May 2013.

Security Council unanimously approves new UN peacekeeping mission in Mali

[UN News Centre] 25 April 2013 – The Security Council today approved a 12,600-strong United Nations peacekeeping operation to take over from the African-led mission in Mali on 1 July and authorized the blue helmets “to use all necessary means” to carry out security-related stabilization tasks, protect civilians, UN staff and cultural artefacts, and create the conditions for the provision of humanitarian aid.

Libya 4 April Activities

4 April 2013 was the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, and the event was marked in Libya’s capital by boy and girl scouts who marched on a seaside street carrying signs warning of the dangers of these explosives. The event was marked in cooperation between the Ministry of Education, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), the United Nations Development Programme as well as international and local non-government organizations.

Bosnia and Herzegovina #1 at lending a leg to ban landmines

Nowhere in the world is more being done to lend a leg than in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the world leader in outreach and media awareness for the Lend Your Leg (LYL) mine action campaign. Lend Your Leg “is a campaign that encourages people worldwide by a simple but symbolic gesture of rolling up a pant leg or sleeve to stop the damage landmines still cause while showing solidarity with all survivors of landmines and other explosive remnants of war."
