A Future for Peace: UNMAS celebrates UN Day in DRC

(24 October 2013, Kinshasa, DRC) UN Day celebrates the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations was officially created.   Today, representatives from the UN Country Team, the UN Mission; MONUSCO, ambassadors,  members of the Government, along with children from nearby schools, gathered at the UNDP Headquarters in Kinshasa, DRC to celebrate United Nations Day 2013.

Civilian Humanitarian Demining Officially Begins in Colombia

Colombia: Civilian humanitarian demining has officially begun in Colombia. Deminers employed by The HALO Trust, an implementing partner of UNMAS, started work in Southeast Antioquia on Wednesday evening, 18th September 2013.

Large Ammunition Storage Facility Handed Over

UNMAS today handed over a large, brand new ammunition depot, consisting of six separate buildings, to the Ministry of Defence in Province Orientale. Located on the outskirts of Kisangani, the capital of the province, the new compound, built to international safety standards, will serve to safeguard the munitions of the Army of the Democratic Republic of Congo based in the province.
