On Convention Anniversary, Algeria Reaffirms Commitment to a Mine-Free World Destroying Last Landmines Retained
[APMBC] After decades of demining work and successfully clearing its territory of all known areas to contain anti-personnel mines, Algeria has gone a step further eliminating nearly 6,000 landmines it had retained for training purposes, becoming a country completely free of these weapons.

Improving Safety among Explosive Hazard Clearance Operators in Libya
[UN CERF] Thanks to a contribution from CERF, in July 2017, UNMAS delivered advanced medical first responder courses and donated the necessary emergency trauma equipment to provide mine action operators in Libya with the necessary skills and tools to implement their work as safely as possible.

Landmines in Sabri Kill Another three Civilians
[Observer] A medical source at Al-Jalaa Hospital in Benghazi confirmed on Tuesday that three civilians were killed by a landmine explosion in the Sabri district.

[Xinhua Net] An Afghan de-miner searches for land mines in Zhari district of southern Kandahar province, Afghanistan, Sept. 18, 2017. More than 1,660 civilians were killed and over 3,580 others injured in conflict-related incidents in the first half of the year, according to figures released by the United Nations mission in the country.

Norway Increases Support for UN Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization in Iraq by NOK 20 million
[The Government of Norway] Mr Brende will announce Norway's increased contribution today at a ministerial meeting on the humanitarian situation in Iraq, which is being held during the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York. Norway is providing a total of NOK 200 million for stabilisation measures in Iraq. NOK 60 million of this sum is going to the UNDP's Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilization (FFIS) in Iraq.
