More Weapons and Ammunition Destroyed in Abyei

As part of the continuing efforts to reduce the impact and risk of explosive hazards in Abyei, the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on 12 June 2017 conducted another destruction exercise of confiscated weapons and ammunition.

 In Iraq, around 3 million people are still living in camps. As a crucial enabling step before initiating a safe rebuilding process and bringing families together again, explosive hazards must be found and cleared.

The situation in Iraq needs UNMAS experts to ensure the safety of civilians returning to their communities. UNMAS, active in Iraq since 2015, in coordination with the Government of Iraq and through its implementing partners is enabling stabilization efforts and humanitarian activities in country.
