Medico International is a medical relief, development aid and human rights organization whose general objective is the improvement of health conditions in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Taking a preventive stand for the benefit of health, the organization considers health as a political affair, which highly depends on nutrition, housing conditions, income, the social fabric, and culture. In an effort to rid the world of antipersonnel landmines, Medico International was a co-founder of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL). The organization continues to be actively involved in the campaign, elaborating concepts for integrated mine action in the field (the so-called Bad Honnef Concept), and working in cooperation with various partners such as the UN Mine Action Service, the Survey Action Center and the Geneva Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining.
