    Democratic Republic of the Congo

Following decades of conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), a significant number of provinces have been contaminated by explosive remnants of war (ERW), the most severely affected of which are located in Eastern DRC.

In both Nyiragongo and Rutshuru territories (North-Kivu region), MONUSCO regularly receives information from civilians and military sources about a extent of unexploded mortars, rockets, RPG-7, weapons and small arms ammunition.

These photos illustrate step by step the clearance activities undertaken by UNMAS and its partners to secure the environment and keep the community
    safe from explosive hazards.
