On 02 March 2023, MINURSO launched activities celebrating IWD, this year being celebrated under the theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. In the presence of Chief of Mission Support Veneranda Mukandoli-Jefferson, Mission Chief of Staff Nick Birnback as well as civilian and military personnel, the Deputy Force Commande Commodore Faustina Boakyewaa Anokye highlighted in particular the key role being played by women in peacekeeping operations. IWD represents, the Commadore stated, an opportunity to eliminate all forms of disparity and inequality targeting women worldwide. In this regard, she paid special tribute to her compatriot the first female DFC of MINURSO, Brigadier General Constance Emefa Edjeani-Afenu who passed away in Ghana just a few weeks after completing her tour of duty in MINURSO in January 2022, commending her tireless work in promoting inclusiveness and increasing the number of women in peacekeeping operations where she had served. Bookmarkers and badges designed for this occasion were distributed.
