The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) condemns an attack on its peacekeepers on 22 September near Gambo (Mbomou Prefecture).The attack was perpetrated by units, thought to be from the anti-Balaka, against a convoy escorted by the Moroccan contingent who retaliated and repelled the assailants. During the attack on the convoy, one peacekeeper was seriously wounded. The peacekeeper was immediately evacuated for medical care and is currently in a stable condition.MINUSCA strongly condemns this new attempt to disrupt its mandate. MINUSCA’s presence in CAR seeks to provide protection to the civilian population, and to support efforts to achieve peace and stability in the country.MINUSCA wishes the injured peacekeeper a rapid recovery, and calls for the perpetrators of the cowardly and reprehensible attack to be arrested and brought to justice.MINUSCA reaffirms its determination to protect civilians and support to the extension of State authority and will continue to execute these tasks with impartiality and firmness.
