The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of UNMIK, Ms. Caroline Ziadeh, visited Gračanica/Graçanicë municipality and met with the Mayor, Ms. Ljiljana Šubarić. The SRSG and the Mayor had a fruitful discussion on wide-ranging issues, including the municipal development plan, with a special focus on the areas of education, health and social welfare. They also discussed durable solutions for IDPs, security concerns of the local population as well as the inclusion of women and youth in decision-making processes.
The SRSG stressed that UNMIK attaches great importance to improving cooperation with local authorities and assisting them to overcome challenges faced by the different communities. She emphasized UNMIK’s readiness to partner with municipal initiatives within the framework of intercommunity dialogue and trust-building.
