Geneva, 27 July 2026 — The United Nations (UN) and the League of Arab States (LAS) are convening their General Cooperation Meeting at the United Nations Office at Geneva from 27 to 29 July, bringing together senior representatives from around 40 UN and LAS agencies, funds and programmes to strengthen collaboration across a range of shared priorities.
The meeting is co-chaired by LAS Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) and Head of the International Political Affairs Sector, Ambassador Khaled Manzlawiy, and United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, Khaled Khiari, of the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO).
Opening the meeting, Assistant Secretary-General Khiari stressed the importance of partnership in addressing today's increasingly complex global challenges. He described cooperation and joint action between the United Nations and the League of Arab States as "force multipliers" that enable both organizations to achieve far greater impact together than either could alone, for the benefit of the people they serve.
Over the course of the three-day meeting, participants will review ongoing cooperation, exchange expertise and explore opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in support of peace, security and sustainable development across the Arab region and beyond.
Representatives from around 40 UN and LAS entities are participating in discussions aimed at enhancing coordination and advancing joint action on issues of common concern.
