Following his briefing to the Security Council, Jean Arnault, Officer in Charge of UNSCOL, held a round of meetings this week with Lebanese political leaders and representatives to listen to their views on the fragile security situation following the announcement of the end of hostilities and the Trilateral Framework signed by the United States, Lebanon, and Israel.At the beginning of the week, Mr. Arnault discussed with Finance Minister Yassine Jaber the dire economic situation in Lebanon and the prospect for financial reforms.He also visited former Prime Ministers Fuad Siniora, Najib Mikati and Tammam Salam, who are among the leaders of the Sunni community.
In meetings with the head of the Lebanese Forces party Samir Geagea, the head of the Kataeb party Samy Gemayel, the head of the Free Patriotic Movement Gebran Bassil and the head of the Marada movement Sleiman Frangieh, Mr. Arnault discussed the prospects for the implementation of the Trilateral Framework and the relation between the implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006) and the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States.
