Welcome to the United Nations

23rd International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers

The 23rd International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and UN Advisers (NDM-UN23) was held from 11 to 14 February 2020 at the United Nations Office at Geneva. The discussions were guided by the theme "Mine Action for People and Planet: Solutions, Commitments and Action."

NDM-UN is the annual meeting where mine action stakeholders meet to discuss emerging issues, and exchange best practices and lessons learned. Main themes this year included: linkages between mine action and the environment; sustainable mainstreaming of diversity in mine action; the use of technology and digital engagement in risk education campaigns; regional approaches to mine action; opportunities of mainstreaming mine action into development; partnerships in humanitarian emergencies; and multi-stakeholder and non-traditional partnerships for collective solutions to the threat of improvised explosive devices. The rich side event agenda offered opportunities to focus on national case studies and best practices, and to go deeper into thematic mine action discussions, as well as to explore innovative approaches and solutions to the most pressing challenges facing the mine action sector today.
